Jacob Fairchild

Jake. 30. Grad Student. Ricky Whittle.

August 27

major of study

Environmental Science (Streams Ecology)

Bay Minette, AL

Alpha Xi Nu, Cheerleader

Jacob Fairchild was born in a trailer in unincorporated Baldwin County, about thirty or so miles south of Bay Minette. Born to an absent father and a single mother, Jacob grew up incredibly poor. He remembers long stretches of time when they didn't have electricity. When he was seven years old, his mother had another child by her then boyfriend; a sister named Tasha. Five years later, when she was pregnant once again, there was a gunfight in the street in their neighborhood. Tasha was hit by a stray bullet and died later from her injuries.

The resulting grief and depression was what eventually ended her mother's relationship with the man, several years after the birth of her second daughter. Jacob harbors no ill will toward his stepfather, and they still keep in touch. He was probably the only positive male influence in his life, as his mother had not been so lucky with her other boyfriends.

As soon as he was able to, he got a job and worked all throughout his teenage years to help with household bills. Especially after his stepfather left the household, his contribution was much needed. He barely scraped enough money to pay for his ACT and SATs. He got exceptional scores on both of them, earning him several full ride scholarships. One of which was to Centennial State University, which he eagerly took up.

He studied Environmental Science while there, also working a part time job and doing cheerleading. He pledged Alpha Xi Nu and was active every semester from them on. He periodically sent money back home, of course, and made sure to have enough money to fly home every holiday he could.

Once he graduated, he enlisted in the coast guard. After serving his time, he decided to go back and get his masters. Returning to CSU, he picked up right where he left off. He can typically be found either at Alpha's house or around campus, being a disgustingly optimistic ray of sunshine like he always is. Another place he's often found is the gym -- he's a bit of a bunny, and a total dudebro at heart. He's the nerdiest dudebro possible, a bit of a paradox..
