Isn't he... something.

Geeky but determined to be cool, innocent but determined to be experienced, awkward but determined to be coordinated. Cory does not want to be who he is. Simultaneously he's arrogant about the qualities he has that aren't frowned upon; he's sly, cunning, and quick on his feet when faced with a challenge. He's got a great sense of humor-- when applied to the right situations and people, mind you, as typically the "cooler" people don't find him very funny-- and has a genius pranking streak in him when he finds himself up to no good. But inherently he's a dork, and he knows it, and it drives him insane.

This need to be someone else stems from a childhood and adolescence of growing up in a town that wasn't as accepting of his geekiness as it should've been. Many people in that area were wealthy and appreciated the "country" life, but he just wasn't the sort of guy that valued that sort of thing, despite how much he pretended to. Instead he'd rather be back at home with his newest video games and whatever geek movies were out at the time, but he was never taught to enjoy that part of himself by anyone but his family. In school he was shoved into lockers, made fun of, and generally had few friends to speak of.

So he completely misconstrued what should have been done in such a situation. College should have been an opportunity to branch out, make new friends-- it should've been his opportunity to blossom and finally be himself with no regrets. But instead he saw it as an opportunity to remake himself when he'd been so well known for being a dork in school. He could be cool now. He could drink with the best of them (no, he can't, he's a weak thing), join a fraternity, laugh at the expense of others, and generally just be the person he always wanted to be while in school.

Unfortunately that person is just the antithesis of who he is. It isn't that he's particularly troubled by hiding his "true" self, it's just that he isn't skilled at hiding it at all. People see right through him, and he ends up making a bigger joke of himself in the end than he would have by being himself. Somehow he's managed to get a bid for Kappa Zeta Epsilon-- probably a prank-- but he's doing his best to fit in with the best of them.

He has a tendency to be insensitive and self-absorbed. Despite his sense of humor and his ability to make people feel good about themselves, he just doesn't see past himself most days. Nor is he very responsible; he has a tendency to do the stupidest things without regard for consequences. Binge drinking the night before a morning test, sleeping in when he's missed too much class already-- generally he isn't equipped to make it through school like he should. Fortunately he has an innate intelligence, so he absorbs just about anything he's read or heard, as well as a manipulative nature that allows him to get away with all kinds of excuses. But those excuses will run out eventually. His teachers won't understand his laziness and irresponsibility forever.

He's loud and obnoxious, too, often so sarcastic that he's difficult to spend too much time around. Despite his tendency to try to be someone else, he's no sheep; he has solid opinions and is unafraid to speak his mind when he finds it necessary. He also has trouble keeping his thoughts to himself even just in his expressions, so he's made a few enemies along the way in how obvious he is.

Occasionally he'll be motivated to do something new and he'll give it a shot. For a while, he'll do it well-- he's quite passionate when motivated-- but after a while he'll simply get lazy about it and it'll fail. He's likely to come up with a business plan that falls though within a couple of weeks. He's childish, too; his interests vary greatly, from video games to comics to just about anything under the sun. Typically he gets along with children better than adults. They appreciate his sense of humor and his childlike nature.

He's stubborn, too. He doesn't seem to know how to apologize, even if he knows he was very much in the wrong in a situation. Despite that he's loyal, though; he may always be trying to be someone else, but he's most definitely caring with those he's picked up along the way, geeky or otherwise. He'll stick up for them, even if he won't stick up for himself. However he's a bit of a commitment-phone; despite being very interested in girls, he has no interest in actually pursuing a relationship if only because, holy shit, a relationship. Plus that's not necessarily cool, is it?
