Camping. It felt like a long time since the man had been camping. So, when the college planned the trip, he had wanted to go, however, it was a busy time on the farm; the last of the summer crops were being harvested and they were setting up for fall. Not as busy as spring and full on summer but still busy.
Shawn hadn’t asked to go; he really didn’t think his family could spare him. The farm being right outside of town, along with the fact that they did business with the college meant that his family found out about it anyway. The insisted he go; knowing how much he would want to. It was only a few days, after all, and the big push towards fall wasn’t for a few weeks.
They already had tents, sleeping bags, coolers and really anything one would need for camping put away from the last time they had gone as a family. It used to be the summer trip they all took together; then after his father’s accident, the children just started going by themselves but it was never the same, after a few years of that, they just stopped going , altogether. Still, everything had been well cared for and was still in good condition.
Shawn’s tent went up fast, having experience with such things. He had set up everything in there just the way the wanted and then stepped outside his tent to see if anyone needed help.
