The Great Outdoors (open to all)

06 September 2016 - 03:23 PM

Camping.  It felt like a long time since the man had been camping.   So, when the college planned the trip, he had wanted to go, however, it was a busy time on the farm; the last of the summer crops were being harvested and they were setting up for fall.  Not as busy as spring and full on summer but still busy.

Shawn hadn’t asked to go; he really didn’t think his family could spare him.  The farm being right outside of town, along with the fact that they did business with the college meant that his family found out about it anyway.  The insisted he go; knowing how much he would want to.  It was only a few days, after all, and the big push towards fall wasn’t for a few weeks.

They already had tents, sleeping bags, coolers and really anything one would need for camping put away from the last time they had gone as a family.   It used to be the summer trip they all took together; then after his father’s accident, the children just started going by themselves but it was never the same, after a few years of that, they just stopped going , altogether.   Still, everything had been well cared for and was still in good condition.

Shawn’s tent went up fast, having experience with such things.  He had set up everything in there just the way the wanted and then stepped outside his tent to see if anyone needed help.

Delivery (Leilani)

27 October 2015 - 04:55 PM

Shawn’s days had been like this lately, up at 4 AM, get deliveries from the farm ready, make deliveries, get home in time for a quick shower and breakfast, get to practice , then school, studying on game days the same expect the games were usually in the afternoon and no school. He normally would have a little of a break from working at the family farm during football season but for the past few weeks something had been going around and a number of the farm hands had gotten sick. While his parents had insisted he didn’t have to help out more, this was Shawn and he would do what he could but he was really hoping that his work load could decrease soon.

The van was now loaded with the fall vegetables: pie pumpkins, potatoes, a variety of squash and the like, fresh eggs and milk and cheese. The whole new food craze of farm to table had made his family’s farm even more popular with the local restaurants. He only had two deliveries this morning though one to the local diner which didn’t take very long and the other restaurant which was one of the nicer ones in town.

It was the kind of restaurant that didn’t open until later in the day but deliveries were still made early, currently being around 7 AM. Shawn figured it was probably for prepping and it’s not good business to be worrying about a delivery when people were actually eating there. He pulled the van into the back parking area, the one for deliveries and knocked on the backdoor, where he was supposed to deliver the items, he had done this enough to know how to deliver something. All he was to do now was to wait for whoever was to open the door.
